Mission Statement
With a firm belief in human resilience, we deliver innovative programming tailored to adults and youth affected by the justice system, and advocate for a society in which all can achieve social, economic, and spiritual well-being.
About This Cause
Founded in 1999, Exodus Transitional Community (Exodus) is a leading preventative, reentry, and advocacy organization in New York City. We have an annual operating budget of over $11 million and are the only NYC-based reentry organization that is predominantly led and staffed by formerly incarcerated people of color. From our East Harlem location, and locations in the Hudson Valley, we offer a vast array of trauma responsive programs and initiatives aimed at reducing recidivism, ending violence, and helping our participants prosper socially, economically, and spiritually. These innovative programs include substance use disorder and mental health treatment, wrap-around case management and workforce development services, traditional and non-traditional trauma informed therapies, youth empowerment and education, alternatives to incarceration, community violence interruption, and more. We currently provide services to over 3,000 individuals annually and have served over 30,000 since our founding. We also provide hot meals on-site to participants and community members, and metro cards so participants are able to attend programs, job interviews, or appointments. Exodus also advocates for and supports initiatives and legislation on state and local levels, each of which seeks to minimize system impact on justice impacted individuals and communities.
