Mission Statement

The mission of Safe Harbor Peer Support Services is to provide a welcoming, physically and emotionally safe environment, where Delaware and Morrow County adults with mental illness can receive peer support, socialization, education and opportunities to work on their mental health recovery. Our goals are to increase the level of self esteem, independence and quality of life of adults residents of Delaware and Morrow County who are currently or have in the past experienced mental illness regardless of the severity, age of onset or duration of symptom experience.

About This Cause

Annie’s Outreach Center traces its roots to the waiting areas of Central Ohio Mental Health Center on South Henry Street in Delaware. There, persons waiting for appointments with mental health therapists became acquainted with each other. These casual conversations became more intentional with the formation of a Wednesday night “supper club” which met in the basement of Central Ohio Mental Health Center. With the help of Annie Whalen, a then employee of Helpline, these mental health clients approached a local landlord about renting space for a largely client-run recovery center. Annie’s Outreach Center opened its doors in late 2002. Its funding came from the Delaware-Morrow Mental Health and Recovery Services Board. Annie’s Outreach was the first and is the only peer-driven recovery center in Delaware County. No Limits Outreach had a very similar beginning and was funded by the same Board. In December of 2007, the Boards of each center decided to join together in order to become a stronger and more stable organization. These combined entities comprise Safe Harbor Peer Support Services. We believe in the power and effectiveness of peer support. We believe that persons who have lived with mental illness are both credible and effective agents for helping others with similar problems. So, when you come to Annie’s or No Limits, you will find persons who will welcome you and understand your struggles because they have been there as well. We believe you have a right to be treated with respect and dignity and you have a right to have your thoughts and opinions heard.
