Mission Statement
Our mission is to help children, parent/caregivers, and families achieve greater inner well-being, sustain closer relationships, and build happier, healthier lives. We do this by providing counseling, early childhood education, diagnostic assessments, therapeutic tutoring, and parenting and community support programs. Founded in 2002, Smart Love is a nonprofit organization that provides services based on the Smart Love® principles.
About This Cause
Established in 2002, Smart Love Parenting Center, operating as Smart Love Family Services (SLFS), is a nonprofit organization committed to fostering emotional well-being and stronger relationships through relationship-based counseling, early childhood education, and learning services. Each year, SLFS supports nearly 1,000 families and children from across Chicago and its suburbs through its centers in Logan Square and nearby Oak Park. The organization also provides on-site training and consultations for schools and agencies, along with professional development resources for educators. SLFS is home to 'The Happiest Preschool Online' course, inspired by the nationally and internationally acclaimed book of the same title by Dr. Martha Heineman Pieper and Kelly Perez. The course equips teachers with tools to foster classroom cultures centered on caring, cooperation, creativity, learning, and emotional health. All programs are grounded in the Smart Love approach, developed by Dr. Martha Heineman Pieper and the late Dr. William Pieper through decades of research and clinical experience. This approach bridges the gap between "tough love" and permissiveness, emphasizing inner well-being and helping children, adolescents, parents, couples, and adults realize their full potential. Through its innovative programs and services, SLFS is dedicated to building healthier families, stronger communities, and brighter futures.
