Mission Statement
The Priority Center's mission is to deliver life-changing programs to assist people in crisis by giving them the tools and support necessary to end the generational cycle of trauma- including prevention of child abuse and neglect, through early intervention and mental health services and advocacy.
About This Cause
The Priority Center is a 501(c)3 tax exempt entity, one of the largest not-for-profits dedicated to the prevention of child abuse in the county and one of 100 centers nationwide sponsored in part by the National Exchange Club Foundation for the Prevention of Child Abuse. Our programs provide critically needed in-home parenting education, case management, mental health counseling, basic needs resources, and family support services to those in crisis, those affected by generational trauma and those at a heightened risk of exposure to adverse childhood experiences. Our programs are unique in that counselors work with families in their own homes, reducing many of the barriers families face in accessing traditional social services or mental health care. Our programs empower parents to create nurturing environments for children, ultimately creating healthier families and communities. The tools and resources provided include basic needs items, developmental and behavioral health assessments, academic readiness assessments and support, parenting education, linkages to resources and care, and more. The goal of intervention is to replace ineffective parenting patterns that may lead to abusive treatment and negative behavior with effective and nurturing parenting styles, as well as to empower parents to become self-sufficient. Parents gain skills and experience increased self-efficacy in a positive counselor-caregiver partnership. Our continuum of care reaches clients from birth through age 18, and we now also serve adults in crisis through our In-Home Crisis Stabilization Program that is the only program of its kind in the county.
