Mission Statement
Animal Friends of the Valleys is dedicated to promoting humane care of animals through education and proactive animal service programs. We are committed to preventing the suffering of animals and to help end pet overpopulation in the communities we serve. AFV is recognized as a leading shelter that offers a safe haven for all small animals. Animal Friends of the Valleys is a stand alone shelter with a new low cost spay/neuter and vaccination clinic. Our mission is to find forever homes for all adoptable pets that come through our doors.
About This Cause
Animal Friends of the Valleys (AFV) was established as a 501c3 in 1987. At that time Animal Friends of the Valleys was also know as LEAF Lake Elsinore Animals Friends which was started by four elderly women that wanted to help stray pets. In 1987 the population in Lake Elsinore was around 4000. AFV started with outdoor kennels for the stray pets. Fast forward to today Animal Friends of the Valleys in located in Wildomar California in a beautiful modern facility that has the capacity to house over 250 animals at any given time. The new shelter was built in 2010 by the the Joint Powers Authority which consists of 2 city council reps from each city we serve. That board oversees the AFV Board of Directors. Today AFV serves the cities of Temecula, Murrieta, Wildomar, Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake, Menifee and surrounding rural county areas. that is a humane population of over 500,000. Last year alone, AFV opened its doors to over 8600 dogs and cats with an additional 1000 others meaning Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Reptiles, and small farm animals . We are pleased to report the highest adoption rate in our 37-year history. Animal Friends of the Valleys has 84 full time employees at the shelter and new clinic. and over 4000 annual volunteers high school students to retired community members.
