Mission Statement

Our mission is to restore Orange County’s families and individuals in crisis to self-sufficiency. Our vision is to end homelessness in our community.

About This Cause

SPIN was founded in 1987 by Sam Boyce and six friends who wanted to help the homeless of Orange County. Now, more than 30 years later, the need for access to housing remains the greatest need in Orange County. SPIN is committed to giving people a hand-up, not a hand-out and is known for the quality of its programs and the outstanding success rate it has achieved with its clients. Historically, over 90% of SPIN’s clients are successful in becoming self-sufficient and independent of all public support each year. SPIN's Family Services Navigation Program plays a crucial role in supporting families with minor children who are experiencing homelessness. Through our Family Services Navigation program (FSN), we help these families access essential housing assistance. As a member of the Family Solutions Collaborative (FSC), SPIN operates as an open Access Point (AP) for the Central Service Planning Area (SPA) within the Orange County Coordinated Entry System (CES). Our dedicated Family Services Navigation team works closely with families to guide them through the process of connecting to eligible housing resources. We assist in completing referrals for emergency shelter and housing opportunities via the Family Coordinated Entry System (FCES), ensuring that families are effectively routed and prioritized for available housing options. By providing this crucial support and access to services, SPIN helps pave the way toward stable housing for families in need. SPIN’s Guided Assistance to Permanent Placement (GAPP) Housing Program offers vital financial assistance and support help house families with children experiencing homelessness. At the core of GAPP is comprehensive case management and support services, which are designed to address the underlying challenges that have contributed to a family's current circumstances. We collaborate closely with clients to identify and implement solutions, such as job development, counseling, budgeting, credit repair, and additional resources, empowering families to achieve long-term stability and success. SPIN’s Street Services Program has been a fundamental part of our mission since 1987. With the help of dedicated volunteers, the program provides over 200 meals, plus hygiene kits, warm clothing, blankets, sleeping mats, referrals to shelters and other special requests to the literally homeless living on the streets or in shelters in Orange County. SPIN's Food Assistance & Basic Needs Initiative engages the community in clothing, household and food drives, serving over 2000 individuals each year, ensuring that families have access to essential household goods and nutritious meals. SPIN's Adopt-A-Family Program brings joy to the families we serve, by partnering with faith-based organizations, businesses, individual volunteers, and community groups. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we provide Easter baskets, Thanksgiving meal kits, Christmas gifts, birthday gifts & party supplies, and fun activities designed to brighten the lives of those who might otherwise go without.
