About This Cause
Cleveland Sight Center offers one of the most comprehensive arrays of service to people who are blind or who have serious vision loss of any agency in the country. We serve the entire age span, infants – preschoolers – teenagers – working adults – seniors. Our clients come from all income levels and from all parts of Ohio and beyond. We deny no one services because of their ability to pay. Our core values are to EDUCATE, EMPOWER, and EMPLOY. Our Early Intervention program serves families in Northeast Ohio with infants or toddlers who are blind or who have severe vision loss; our staff makes home visits and provides emotional support and instruction. With a capacity to serve up to sixteen children, we have the only preschool in the state geared to the child who is blind or who has vision loss. Our recreation activities help clients to lead a fulfilling life - achieve independence, gain friends, and have fun. Unusual for any agency today, we offer numerous recreational opportunities: at Highbrook Lodge overnight camp in Chardon, Ohio (one of the few in the country designed specifically for children, families and adults who are blind), golf at various public courses, or tandem biking or cross country skiing at the National Park. These programs are possible only because of our partnerships with other institutions and the dedication of our many volunteers who provide countless hours of service each year. Each year hundreds of seniors losing their vision receive services in their home community to help them maintain their independence and quality of life. We are the first agency in the country to implement ‘evidence-based’ Supportive Employment practices for persons who are blind. Our goal: help our clients achieve competitive employment at jobs that pay at least minimum wage – and make a dent in the unemployment rate for persons with disabilities. We provide job search, personalized benefits counseling and long term support.
