GREATER CLEVELAND NEIGHBORHOOD CENTERS ASSOCIATION

Cleveland, Ohio, 44103 United States

Mission Statement

As an intermediary, management support organization established in 1963 NCA was created specifically to provide capacity-building assistance for neighborhood centers. Many of Cleveland’s neighborhood centers began as settlement houses in the late 1800s, to help immigrants acculturate to an American lifestyle. They have since evolved to meet the changing needs of their constituents, and today provide a comprehensive range of services for people of all ages.

About This Cause

NCA services are categorized in two areas 1) Education Programs and 2) Capacity Building through providing Back-office Services. Education Program Programs is NCA’s largest funded area. NCA's Partners Fr Student Success out-of-school programs are funded by the Ohio Department of Education’s Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) and locally by the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and Cleveland Resource & Recreation Centers. P4SS's out-of-school-time academic support and enrichment programs are provided at 8 CMSD schools to serve more than 1000 youth (K-12) and their parents each year. NCA employs qualified youth development staff and specialized content providers to ensure quality programs and compliance. Program enhancements (i.e. technology, environmental education) are provided through other grant funding from foundations, businesses, individuals and partner organizations. NonProfit Advantage (NPA) offers core "back office" functions to other community based, non-profit organizations. NPA’s fee-for-service line provides accounting and finance, information technology and human resource services to strengthen the infrastructure of nonprofit organizations, thus allowing them to focus more precisely on the increasing needs of the urban community. Providing high-quality services occurs when a nonprofit is on firm financial ground; programs can be dramatically improved only when the leadership can think strategically and make decisions based on accurate information regarding the true cost of service provision.
