About This Cause
The vision of Mobile Meals of Toledo, Inc. "Delivering meals. Fostering independence." Programs: Home-delivered meal program: The Auxiliary to the Academy of Medicine founded our Home-delivered Meal Program in 1967 and this year is our 57th year of service to the greater Toledo area. Our meal program serves anyone needing assistance with meal preparation or diet maintenance. We have served people from age 2 to 106 and we have gone from serving four clients a day to over 500 a day. We currently have no waiting list and in 2023 we delivered 205,000 meals. We provided $600,000 in assistance to meal clients who could not afford to pay the full cost of service. Our agency touched the lives of and provided independence to 1,501 unduplicated clients throughout 2023. Our Volunteer Program is as important to our agency as the services we provide. The program provides opportunities for around 300 people from all walks of life to give back to their community in 2-4 hours a month. It also provides us with much-needed volunteer drivers who save us over $300,000 each year in delivery costs. Mobile Meals also began a Pet Food Program in 2007. Through collaboration with local companies as well as grant money and individual donations, we have been able to assist over 100 clients with food for their pets so they do not have to share their Mobile Meals with their beloved companions. Mobile Meals began a Nonprofit Meal Wholesale Program in 2022. In response to the pandemic many Meals on Wheels providers and Residential Community homes for the Department of Developmental Disabilities reached out in need of single serve nutritional meals that met a medically tailored diet. Now in our third year of service offering, MMoT provides meals to three Ann Grady Services community homes. We also, support Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels and are building a partnership with Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels. Through these two partnerships we provide more than 6,000 meals annually to more than 200 clients with our two partners. Mobile Meals began our Paramount/Promedica Medicare Advantage Program in 2019. The insurer program with Promedica reached out to MMoT to collaborate with them to launch a post-discharge meals program for Paramount & Paramount Elite members. Now in our 6th year we meet 90% of their members request for meals and we provide over 20,000 meals. Many referred clients stay on after the two weeks post discharge meal program. Mobile Meals began a Congregate Meal program with Senior Centers, Inc in 2019. MMoT has provided meals and commodity meals to the senior center for the past six years. As a result of our partnership SCI has the highest rated meals service program of all the senior centers. We are looking to expand our partnerships with other senior centers from Oregon to Sylvania in the coming years. Mobile Meals began an Apartment Congregate Meal Program in 2024. We are working with the Area Office on Aging leadership team along with their community advocate for Vistula residents. The AOoA has reviewed with residents in the neighborhood and senior apartment complexes that there is a need for a nutritional service program and community resources. Mobile Meals was identified as a partner because we are the only provider in the community that provides many meal options (renal, cardiac, diabetic, pureed and soft). As of April 2024, we have three sites: Madonna Homes, Northgate apartments, & AHEPA. We seek to continue expanding access to meals at apartment complexes and grow access to healthy meals delivered to housing complexes throughout Toledo. We now serve approximately 100 clients daily via the three sites and have over 225 unduplicated clients who have been supported since the program launched in February 2024.
