Mission Statement
One young boy in need set in motion a ministry in Wooster, OH that has provided hope and healing to hundreds of children whose lives have been shattered by abuse, neglect and traumatized. In March of 1969, a serene 175-acre farm in Wooster became known as the Christian Children’s Home of Ohio (CCHO) when members of the independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ movement learned of a boy with no safe place to call home. Initially licensed as a foster/group home serving three to five children at one time, CCHO now has five cottages on its campus that are home to as many as 38 at-risk kids at once, confused and broken children who just need to know that they are loved, valued & safe. CCHO became licensed as an adoption agency in 1997; in 2006, the organization received COA accreditation; and in 2009, Intensive Residential Treatment Program and Certified Trauma Therapy began. We are grateful and humbled by the work God has done through CCHO, and we can’t wait to see what He does over the next 50 years!
About This Cause
CCHO's purpose is to help people experience their worth in Christ. We do this by providing a safe and stable environment where abused, neglected and traumatized children find healing, discover hope and experience unconditional love. We offer a variety of programs which include: • Children’s Residential Center - A residential treatment center for abused, abandoned and traumatized children ages 6-18 located in Wooster, OH. The center provides services to children located in any of the 88 counties in the state of Ohio. We offer a variety of therapeutic approaches such as: equine-assisted therapy, music, group, individual play and certified trauma therapy along with partial hospitalization. • Encompass Christian Counseling - Provides licensed, professional counseling for individuals, adults and families at 15 locations throughout Northeast Ohio. • Home Based Services - Our aim is to keep families intact by providing abuse and neglect prevention and family stabilization services to struggling families. Parenting classes, case management, counseling and wrap around support are offered. • Foster Care - With offices located in Stark and Wayne counties, our staff offers training, foster family licensing and child matching with those families, respite care and support for children and the 60+ foster families currently with our organization. CCHO is licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, certified by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and nationally accredited by the Council of Accreditation (COA). In 2016, CCHO added the Intensive Trauma Therapy (ITT) program offered to our Children’s Residential Center. ITT works to guide the client through past traumatic event(s) so they can be processed, without reliving painful experiences. Processing trauma using the Graphic Narrative is the fundament task in ITT. Clients hand draw their story from start to finish, complete with all the non-verbal details, a technique that is crucial for bringing closure to the traumatic memory.
