Mission Statement

LAND studio's mission is to create places and connect people through public art, sustainable building and design, collaborative planning, and dynamic programming.

About This Cause

LAND studio (LAND) is a recognized leader in Cleveland for transforming the city’s public realm through accessible art and public space projects, developed in close collaboration with residents and the creative community. For more than thirty years, the organization has convened stakeholders, from local governments and community development corporations to grassroots neighborhood groups and block clubs, creating well-designed public spaces that reflect the needs and aspirations of Cleveland residents. LAND studio (an acronym: Landscape, Art, Neighborhoods, and Development) is a Cleveland-based nonprofit whose mission is to create places and connect people through public art, sustainable building and design, collaborative planning, and dynamic programming. The organization’s initiatives range from large-scale public space and trail projects to site specific public art commissions. LAND formed through the merger of ParkWorks and Cleveland Public Art (CPA) in 2011—both respected nonprofits that improved the quality of life for Clevelanders for more than three decades. ParkWorks did this through the creation of greenspaces and CPA did so through public art. With the encouragement of stakeholders, the organizations joined together to achieve greater impact throughout the city. The organization serves the Cleveland metropolitan area, representing stakeholders and residents who use public spaces daily. Due to the nature of its work, LAND engages a broad cross-section of the city’s population. LAND studio has a 16-member staff and 24-member board which is comprised of leaders from a wide variety of public and private sectors. LAND has a $2.2 million operating budget, which includes support from philanthropic, corporate, and individual sources, and earned income through contracts and services. With a current project portfolio of over $50 million, the organization's small size does not diminish its capacity to convene, design, and implement large-scale projects. The organization’s portfolio includes major initiatives such as the $57 million redesign of Public Square (completed in 2016) and the $45 million redevelopment of Irishtown Bend Park (in progress).
