About This Cause
Ashland County Cancer Association The Ashland County Cancer Association (ACCA) is a nonprofit organization that supports cancer patients and their families in Ashland County. Since 1947, our Director and dedicated staff members have worked alongside a Board of Trustees, volunteers, and interns to raise awareness of our services and provide comprehensive support to cancer patients. Financial Assistance Program: Our primary service is financial assistance for cancer patients, covering: Travel Stipends: A set stipend for travel to treatment locations (e.g., $12.00 for trips from Loudonville to Wooster). Cancer-Related Medications: Costs are covered post-insurance or fully for uninsured patients. We assist in applying for Medication Assistance Programs. Nutritional and Durable Medical Supplies: Includes items like nutritional drinks, bandages, and wigs, reimbursed with a provided receipt. Nutritional Program ACCA provides Boost Nutritional Supplement Drinks to clients undergoing treatment. Each client can receive: Two cases per month (24 bottles per case, each with 20 grams of protein). Reimbursement for alternative nutritional drinks upon receipt submission. This program invests $15,000 annually to ensure nutritional support. High-Protein Food Pantry In addition to the Nutritional Program, ACCA offers a High-Protein Food Pantry stocked with essential high-protein items to aid clients during treatment. Available items include: Canned beans Nut butters Dairy Products: Milk, cheese and eggs Protein bars and shakes These items help clients meet their nutritional needs, especially during difficult treatment periods. Household Necessities To further support our clients, we provide access to Household Necessities, including: Personal hygiene products (soaps, shampoos, etc.) Cleaning supplies Paper products (toilet paper, towels) These necessities ensure that clients can focus on their health without the added burden of everyday expenses. Educational Services We offer a variety of educational materials covering: Types of cancer Treatment options Prevention methods Community resources Emotional and Spiritual Support ACCA provides emotional support to cancer patients and their families, working in partnership with local churches. We connect clients with: Pastors and church resources Support groups Mentorship opportunities This comprehensive support network helps address the emotional and spiritual needs of those affected by cancer. Transportation Program ACCA operates a Transportation Program to reduce transportation barriers for those we service. Our fleet includes: A Transit Van A Chevy Equinox These vehicles ensure safe and reliable transport to medical appointments, helping clients access crucial treatment without additional stress. Mammogram Services We promote breast health through our Mammogram Program, encouraging annual screenings starting at age 40. ACCA funds screenings for qualifying Ashland County residents at the Women's Health Center. Financial Assistance for Mammograms ACCA receives funding via the Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio license plate program, which provides emergency assistance for qualifying breast cancer patients. Wigs and Head Coverings We provide a selection of wigs and head coverings at no cost to clients, ensuring support regardless of income.
