Mission Statement
The mission of the Shelby County United Way is to continually identify, evaluate, and make possible the human services needed in our community. We currently fund over 40 programs in the community.
About This Cause
The Shelby County United Way continues to serve the citizens, organizations, and companies of Shelby County. Your trusted donations have made significant impact in the lives of Shelby County citizens of all ages. Today, over 40 agencies and programs receive United Way funding and all change lives in the impact areas of Health, Education, and Income. Separately, Shelby County United Way offers Special Project Grants available to 501 (c) 3 non-profit agencies in Shelby County throughout the year to assist in one time projects or programs. In 2015, the Shelby County United Way collaborated with the Shelby County Libraries and many funding partners to adopt Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for Shelby County youth under the age of 5. Imagination Library is an early literacy program for children under the age of 5. At no cost to the family, an age appropriate book is mailed monthly to the family’s address. Studies show children enrolled in Imagination Library are better prepared for kindergarten, are read to more often, and have more books and visits to the local libraries than children not enrolled. Wilson Health is enrolling all infants born at the birthing center. Today, over 140,000 books have been mailed and over 2700 children have graduated from this program. In 2021 we provided the seed gift for the Mercy Mission House to bring Emergency housing to Shelby County. This project has relocated the Alpha Community Center, Holy Angels Soup Kitchen and Bridges Community Action Center to one campus.
