Mission Statement
The Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse and Suicide works passionately to empower the community to end youth abuse and suicide by offering evidence-based and evidence-informed, high-quality prevention programs so all children can live free from harm and to their highest potential.
About This Cause
Our History The Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse & Suicide was founded out of both heartbreak and hope. Our namesake, Chaucie Quillen, grew up in Carmel, excelling in academics and athletics. But behind the scenes, she was enduring sexual abuse at the hands of her father starting at age 10. At 18, Chaucie bravely reported the abuse. Though her father was ultimately convicted of sexual battery, the strain of her trauma and the shortcomings of the legal process took a devastating toll. On December 26, 1995, Chaucie took her own life. In the wake of this tragedy, community members came together, determined to prevent other children from experiencing similar pain. In 2001, Chaucie’s Place was established to educate and empower youth and adults to prevent abuse and suicide in Hamilton County. Over time, the need for our programs expanded well beyond our local community. Following legislative changes that opened new doors for prevention education statewide, we broadened both our vision and our reach. In 2019, Chaucie’s Place became the Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse & Suicide (ICPYAS) to reflect our growing impact across Indiana. While our name has evolved, our mission remains the same: to protect youth, support families, and prevent tragedy. Every child we reach honors Chaucie’s legacy of courage, strength, and hope.
