Mission Statement

Lighthouse Counseling & Family Resource Center is a community based, non-profit organization with a vision to ensure the residents of our community live a safe, healthy and productive life. We provide counseling, educational support, and family resources, in both English and Spanish, to improve the quality of life for the residents of Placer County. All of our services are provided at no cost to ensure individuals receive the assistance they need.

About This Cause

Lighthouse began in 1996 as a vision of key players from California State University Sacramento (CSUS), the Western Placer Unified School District (WPUSD), Placer County Office of Education (PCOE), Placer County Health and Human Services and the City of Lincoln. The challenge was the historical lack of social services in the Lincoln/Sheridan community and the reluctance of many of the residents to go to Roseville or Auburn to seek county health, mental health and other social services. Lincoln/Sheridan had been identified as a “pocket area” of the County, meaning that it is an area of high poverty with other significant at-risk indicators, including high rates of youth on probation and teen pregnancy, and birth. The vision was to provide free comprehensive health, mental health and social services to the families served by the WPUSD. Today, much of the initial vision for Lighthouse has been realized. We have expanded our services to provide full-service counseling, advocacy, job assistance and placement, women’s support groups, parenting classes, wellness classes, nutrition classes, and much more. The Placer County Women Infant and Children (WIC) program is housed in our offices helping us to be a one-stop shop for families in need. We no longer serve just the Lincoln/Sheridan areas. Each year, Lighthouse serves more than 3,000 people in all of Placer County. In 2010, 2012 and 2013, Lighthouse won the “Best Non-Profit Award” given by the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. In 2012, we won “Best in Collaboration on a Long-Term Basis” from the Placer Collaborative Network. In 2013, Lighthouse was also awarded “Best of the Best” from the Lincoln News Messenger in the categories of Best Overall Non-profit and Best Customer Service. Surpassing even our own expectations, on July 30, 2014 Lighthouse was honored to receive five awards for "Best of the Best" by the Lincoln News Messenger. The awards were given for the categories of Best Non-Profit, Best Customer Service, Best Office Staff, Best Website and Best Volunteer. Most recently, in 2015, we won "Best of the Best" for Best Website and Best Place to Work. Overall, Lighthouse enjoys a very positive reputation for providing quality, professional, caring and collaborative services within the Placer County Community.
