Mission Statement
To use the joy of positive dog training in support of behavioral therapy professionals in their effort to nurture empathy and non-violent problem solving skills.
About This Cause
The Little Dog Laughed Animal-Assisted Therapy teams work with at-risk children in domestic violence shelters, schools, and residential treatment facilities in the Portland area. Our work is in support of therapists, counselors, and youth workers. We do not charge our client agencies or the families with which we work. We are volunteers who bring our certified therapy dogs to children. Our dog/handler teams teach children life skills in a novel way – with carefully structured classes in positive dog training. By being actively involved in the training, the kids learn how to build empathetic, coercion-free relationships based on trust rather than intimidation. AND, it’s fun!
