Mission Statement
We are a nonprofit, public charity providing life-skill classes in ten of Tennessee's state prisons and 25 county jails. We provide reentry services to anyone released from incarceration including job training, job placement, counseling, and mentoring.
About This Cause
The Tennessee Prison Outreach Ministry is a nonprofit public charity and we operate a re-entry center where we provide job training, job placement and counseling to men and women released from incarceration. We operate an approved transitional house for 16 men, a separate 16 bed facility for women next door to the reentry center in Nashville. We also operate a ten bed facility for men in Memphis. We also conduct an annual summer camp and mentoring program for children of the incarcerated. We have taught approximately 2,000 students in the past year through classes and correspondence courses. We have expanded our volunteer base to over 500, giving their time in the re-entry center, county jails and prisons. We are able to place 92% of returning citizens in a job within 10 days of completion of our orientation course. Last year, 70 went through our transitional house and had an average starting salary of $16 per hour.
