Mission Statement
The mission of Mercy Home for Boys & Girls is to save young lives by: providing a safe, nurturing residential home, Community Care support for former residents and their families, and community-based and site-based mentoring opportunities; promoting therapeutic, educational, vocational, spiritual and life skill development; and raising awareness of youth in need and encouraging support to help them.
About This Cause
Since 1887, Mercy Home for Boys & Girls has served as a refuge where abused and neglected children gain the safety, encouragement, skills and structure they need to grow into healthy, confident and contributing adults. Today, Mercy Home, a 501(c)(3) licensed child care institution and licensed child welfare agency, serves more than 700 children, ages 11 to 21, and their families each year through our Residential Program, which is the core of our mission. Mercy Home is, first and foremost, a home and family for at-risk youth: our Residential Program provides 24-hour care including a safe, encouraging and structured environment, healthy meals, therapy, clothing and medical care to more than 170 young men and women each year. The average stay in our program is 16 months, though some youth stay for three or more years. In addition to our Residential Program, Mercy Home offers Friends First, which matches at-risk children ages 8 to 17 with a volunteer mentor. Mercy Home provides referral and assessment services to young people whose needs should be met by other agencies. Our Community Care program provides ongoing academic, vocational and life skills support. Additionally, Community Care runs a supportive housing complex in the South Shore neighborhood to help former residents through providing safe, affordable housing while they work to build a strong educational and financial foundation.
