Mission Statement
The mission of Thrive Counseling Center is to build healthy minds, families, and communities by empowering people to attain mental and emotional well-being. Hope, resilience, and recovery form the heart of our programs and services.
About This Cause
Thrive Counseling Center offers accessible and affordable individual and group counseling services, psychiatric care, crisis intervention, and community education programs in the West Suburban Cook Count and Chicago's West Side. We serve youth aged 6-17 and adults aged 18-85 or older, always meeting them where they are, with respect and compassion. The majority of Thrive clients come from Oak Park, River Forest, the surrounding West Suburban Cook County suburbs, and Chicago's Austin neighborhood. Thrive is often the only option for low-income individuals or those whose high insurance deductibles that prevent them from accessing mental health treatment. Approximately 75% of Thrive clients are Medicaid-insured. In recent years, Thrive has increased its Youth Services program to help address the current mental health crisis among youth. The agency welcomed the addition of a child psychiatrist to our team and expanded the counseling staff’s ability to see youth as well. The agency completed its fourth year of suicide awareness and prevention trainings at local high schools, reach more than 1,000 students annually. Community outreach and education was especially important once the pandemic hit. In addition to articles about mental health in local newspapers, ads and posters, the agency’s popular Thrive Talk series drew hundreds of participants on topics as diverse as children and anxiety, substance abuse, domestic violence and family communication. Also in response to the pandemic, Thrive launched a free phone support line staffed by seasoned counselors and organized a series of Thrive Town Halls via Zoom to provide a forum to any community member to gain support and share strategies for coping.
