Mission Statement
Because the quality of justice in America should not depend on how much money a person has, NLADA leads a broad network of advocates on the frontlines to advance justice and expand opportunity for all by promoting excellence in the delivery of legal services for people who cannot afford counsel.
About This Cause
Effective local advocacy requires a strong national advocate. NLADA is America’s oldest and largest nonprofit association devoted to excellence in the delivery of legal services to those who cannot afford counsel. We provide advocacy, guidance, information, training and technical assistance for members of the equal justice community, especially those working in public defense and civil legal aid. For more than a century, we have connected and supported people across the country committed to justice for all. Imagine the faces of the individuals and families across the country facing overwhelming challenges - • a veteran in need of a mobility assistance device but denied benefits • a father unable to pay his daughter’s bail, watching her languish in jail for months waiting for a court date • a student searching for the special education services that will enable success • a family whose steep court fines has snowballed into a financially devastating sum • an immigrant fleeing persecution at home for being LGBTQ • a mother risking dangerous working conditions to provide for her children NLADA believes that no one should have to faces these or other legal challenges alone. Every American deserves a qualified and passionate lawyer to advocate for their rights and wellbeing. NLADA works tirelessly to fulfill our mission.
