Mission Statement
Our mission is to serve active older adults through intellectually enriching, socially engaging, and physically energizing programs and volunteer opportunities.
About This Cause
The Des Plaines Community Senior Center (d/b/a Frisbie Senior Center) was incorporated in 1976 as a 501(c)(3) charitable, not-for-profit corporation. Since that time, the organization has been serving active adults through intellectually enriching, socially engaging, and physically energizing programs and volunteer opportunities, supporting local seniors that are aging in place. Through the Center, our membership and non-member daily users have access to a 20,000 sq. ft. facility that offers over 65 different program and service types – some occurring multiple times throughout the month. Aside from a variety of social and recreational activities offered, some of the programs, including day trips and out-of-facility activities, are fee-based due to additional costs involved. Offerings within the Frisbie Senior Center include: • daily social and recreational activities, • on-going health & wellness and educational programming, • planned day trips and extended trips, • one-to-one counseling options, focusing on health, legal, employment, and a host of other topics, • medical equipment, offered through our Medical Closet program, that can be purchased or rented at below market pricing, • access to a Veterans’ Affairs representative, through an on-site VA office, • great savings on everyday goods to the next great find for that “treasure hunter” or collector, in our resale shop – Once & Again Resale Shop (donated goods accepted as well), • hand-made crafts, which can be found in the Senior Craft Boutique, and • meeting space and facilities for rental use.
