About This Cause

BACKGROUND... With a membership that represent many of the 23 Spanish speaking countries in the world (approx. 70 persons), this 51-year-old Spanish speaking congregation evolved from a Spanish speaking English as a Second Language course into a community of faith. From its establishment as a 501(c)3 not for profit in 1971, ECC Albany Park's mission continues to be to serve, help and equip individuals with their faith, knowledge and skills to live successfully either, within the local community around the church or, wherever they may live in and around Chicago. Pastor Tomas Sanabria, M.Div. is going on his 11th year as the leader in faith, teaching and programming within the church. He is the church's first fully bilingual and bicultural pastor. With a master’s degree in theology and a bachelor’s degree in communications and administration, he also was a Chaplain at a major trauma hospital within the city. He is committed to realizing the vision and mission of this faith community. MINISTRIES AND PROGRAMS... Over the years, service and helps has meant helping low-income individuals, as well as immigrants, alcoholics and people facing dire circumstances within their lives and homes. Since we believe that help could come from either one, two or all three dimensions of humanity - corporal, mental and spiritual - we have committed ourselves to 1) encouraging people to grow in their faith, 2) to get involved in one of the church's ministries and / or, 3) connect with community resources, counseling, mentoring or to community social services. We make referrals all the time as well as write letters for many persons needing these services. For 9 years groups of summer youth workers from churches across the US would serve with our church and our local community through our Basket of Love (food and clothing pantry), provide urban immersion experiences to outsiders, provide counseling, and help for those needing to do community services through the courts or schools, etc. This ministry continues with members of the congregation. The Venezuelan Ministry...Currently 11 recently arrived immigrants to the US are housed on two floors of a ministry building called Jardines de Ekklesia. They are provided food, clothing, counseling, orientation, etc. on a continuous basis. HOW CAN FUNDERS HELP US? PROGRAMMING... Financial help to hire 3 to 5 staff to do community outreach services, development of services and programming with children, youth and adults; development of community projects such as immersion experiences, park outreaches, betterment of the community garden, development of and the painting of a community mural, etc. REHABBING...
