Mission Statement
Alight exists to walk alongside those who – by sheer circumstance – find themselves on the long and arduous journey of displacement. Each year Alight serves 3.5 million people in over 20 countries who have been displaced by climate, conflict, and social and economic exclusion. We listen closely to their voices, gathering insights that allow us to provide innovative human-centered services and programs. By co-creating alongside displaced people we can ensure that we are meeting their needs and moving beyond necessities to build lives that are full of joy, connection, and purpose.
About This Cause
Alight is built on the way we see people. Understanding that a life is about so much more than simply satisfying basic needs, we’re working on how best to help the people we serve find connection, purpose and joy in the challenging situations they find themselves in today. Though Alight operates in 20+ countries around the world, our most recent initiative is here, where we're based, in our Minnesotan community. Since the beginning of January 2022, 250+ Afghan individuals and families evacuated from Afghanistan have begun arriving to their new homes in Minnesota. Alongside local partners and neighbors we are working to bring dignity and warmth to their new homes. Follow us to learn more about the Afghan Welcome Home initiative. For the past 40 years, we’ve called ourselves American Refugee Committee, an organization known for providing quality care to millions of refugees worldwide. And through all the years and conversations we’ve had with the people we serve, we’ve heard the same thing time and time again – refugee is not a label we want. As Alight, we're immersing ourselves in the work of pioneering a new kind of human institution. One that exists to unleash abundance, that’s committed to providing and designing human-worthy services. We’re making proximity to our customers our guiding star, democratizing co-design of programs and projects – because everyone has the power to change their future. We will continue the same critical work we’ve always done – providing health care, clean water, shelter, protection and economic opportunities to more than 3.5 million people in 17 countries each year. Alight only allows us to do even more, to do better, for all different kinds of people in different kinds of ways.
