Mission Statement
South Suburban PADS is an interfaith (501(c)3) non-profit organization with a mission to prevent and end homelessness.
About This Cause
Over the past 29 year, South Suburban PADS has helped over 18,000 individuals escape homelessness, served over one million meals, and helps approximately 1200 people annually. Description of Current Programs and Activities: Prevention: South Suburban PADS provides emergency rent and utility assistance to help individuals and families avoid homelessness; Street Outreach: South Suburban PADS engages homeless people at libraries, hospitals, department store parking lots, forest preserves, and other locations to encourage them to take advantage of emergency shelter and other available resources; Emergency Shelter: South Suburban PADS supports an interfaith network of 15 rotating emergency shelters from October 1st to April 30th every year. A limited number of shelter beds are also available during the summer months. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, SSPADS quickly pivoted services and temporarily closed all congregate shelters. Over 100 homeless clients were moved to a local hotel and senior living facility. This model of service will be sustained until the end of she shelter season in 2021, with the guidance of the CDC and local health authorities. Rapid Rehousing: South Suburban PADS provides case management and temporary (3-24 months) rental assistance to enable homeless people to move back into sustainable apartments; and Permanent Supportive Housing: South Suburban PADS provides permanent housing and wrap-around services to enable people with addictions, mental health challenges, and other special needs to escape homelessness. The Country Club Hills Wellness Center is a 77-unit stand alone facility with access to healthcare and mental health services, access to financial literacy classes, and basic life-skills like cooking and healthy eating classes. In 2020, 35 children live in the building with their families. Supportive Services: South Suburban PADS provides an array of wrap-around services to help individuals and families work towards greater self-sufficiency. Services include case management, financial education, employment support, healthcare coordination, health education, physical and mental healthcare access, transportation, and life skills training.
