Mission Statement

The IETF's mission is to provide support, services, educational materials and increase awareness for essential tremor while funding research to find better treatments and a cure.

About This Cause

The IETF impacts the international community by (1) increasing public awareness about essential tremor (ET) through the celebration of March as National ET Awareness Month; (2) educating the public and healthcare providers about the difference between ET and Parkinson's disease; (3) increasing the number of support groups in communities throughout the U.S. to help patients cope; (4) providing $687,000 in grant support to neuroscientists to fund important ET research; (5) publishing three news magazines every year; (6) writing and distributing monthly electronic newsletters to keep the patients and physicians better informed. The educational publications that are provided free of charge contain articles about research advances, coping tips, appropriate treatments, methods for diagnosis, notices of research studies and information about support groups. The IETF also facilitates 24 free community education programs throughout the U.S. to improve quality of life and provide accurate information to those affected by ET each year. The organization also displays educational materials at ten national healthcare conferences to increase the knowledge of healthcare providers in providing an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatments for ET. The IETF each year engages in 2-3 nationally broadcast webcasts that focus on the history, diagnosis and treatment options for people diagnosed with essential tremor. The IETF website has been developed to allow greater access by the visitors to educational materials and the blog, Tremor Talk.org was created to encourage a greater exchange of ideas and discussion.
