Mission Statement
Our mission is to offer guests, connected to our communities, who are homeless or in need hope for the future by providing hospitality, food, safe shelter, and education – tools for life. We strive to make certain that all who enter feel the love of Jesus.
About This Cause
Twenty years ago our eyes and our hearts were opened to those experiencing homelessness among us. Founding Executive Director, Darlene Marcusson, boldly began a movement to create a safe space where the community could come together in providing an opportunity for changing, impacting and in some cases saving lives of homeless individuals and families. • Since 1998 we have occupied rental space in the St. Charles Free Methodist Church at 214 Walnut Street as our Emergency Shelter. • In 2003, an upper addition to this building was made to create our Center for Transitional Living • In 2006 we purchased a building at 15 South 3rd Street to house our Women and Children's Day Center • In 2008, we purchased a building at 308 Walnut Street to house a Community Resource Center, helping provide space for our Outreach Program and other operating needs. • In 2017, we purchased the property at 214 Walnut Street with future plans to put all of Lazarus House under one roof after renovation work on the building is complete.
