Mission Statement
Through service-oriented cycling trips, Bike & Build benefits affordable housing and empowers young adults for a lifetime of service and civic engagement.
About This Cause
Bike & Build was founded in 2002 and based on the now defunct Habitat Bicycle Challenge. Over the years we have grown and adapted in our programming and operations, settling on our current programming of cross country, regional, and single day bike rides that benefit affordable housing. Each year we engage 125 participants in our cross country bike trips where young adults pedal from coast to coast while learning, building, and advocating for affordable housing in communities across the country. In 2020 COVID-19 forced us to get creative with our programs, and we created Community Rides - single day, 15 mile long bike rides in major cities in the U.S. designed to engage folks from all backgrounds and ages in their specific community's solutions to the affordable housing crisis. In 2022 we will bring back our longer cross country and regional trips as well as continue with our Community Rides. Above all, Bike & Build aims to continue expanding nationally and to empower a diverse group of young adults to become civically engaged in their communities. In addition, Bike & Build has worked with thousands of Americans to spread awareness about the affordable housing cause. The organization continues to grow as its dedicated program participants and outstanding alumni seek creative ways to continue fundraising, advocating for, and volunteering with affordable housing groups nationwide. Bike & Build currently employs three full-time office staff members: Director of Outreach & Communication, Program Director, and Director of Operations & Development, as well as seasonal leaders for our cross country and regional bike trips each summer.
