Mission Statement

The International Ocean Film Foundation is a year-round ocean conservation organization with a featured three-day ocean film festival, featuring over 50 independent films about the ocean, panel discussions with industry experts, a youth program for more than 2,000 Bay Area middle school and high school students. We believe in the power of storytelling to motivate and inspire people to take action to help preserve our ocean, its inhabitants and its ecosystems. Our mission is to be the global platform for ocean literacy and education through independent film.

About This Cause

Based in San Francisco, the IOFF is the premier ocean film festival in the world, and is primarily a volunteer driven organization. Hosting a three-day event, the festival features more than 50+ independent films, over 25 visiting filmmakers from around the world and opportunities for the community to meet with marine experts and learn more about the importance of our ocean and to preserve it for future generations. We encourage the next generation to tell their story about the ocean through the 14th Annual Student Film Competition, and we host free screenings for more than 1,500 Bay Area middle school and high school students. Our Traveling Program takes the films on tour to other destinations around the US and around the world.
