Mission Statement
We are a voice for the voiceless. A beacon of hope, and more often than not- a last chance for many animals who are at-risk for euthanasia in city shelters for reason such as age, medical/behavioral issues, or being part of a bonded pair.
About This Cause
Gloria Lissner, (founder and executive director) has been dedicated to Animal Protection and has saved thousands of animals in the last 30 years. The establishment of Famous Fido Rescue is the combined effort of many individuals who are driven and dedicated to finding answers to the many problems that afflict abused dogs and cats - we have made a lot of progress however there is still a very long way to go. Because of the many like-minded people we work with we provide food, shelter, veterinary health-care, spaying, neutering, training, and adoption information - we also offer lots of love, an active support system and many other resources. Famous Fido Rescue and Adoption Alliance is a 501c3 non-profit charity located at 3124 W. Irving Park Road, along with its no-kill advocacy center in Chicago. The center is currently providing programs to bring about awareness to the community and seeks to bring forth a new way of thinking about companion animal care and the adoption process so that families have resources and knowledge that will facilitate their lifelong commitment to the animals they adopt. For those who already have a cat or dog in the home, we are providing interventions, resources, and counseling so that when issues come up, the animal will not be relinquished to a shelter. We have nearly 100 canines and felines that reside in our sanctuary, either waiting for the perfect forever home or living our their days with love and care as part of our Famous Fido family. Each animal is an individual with a specific story, many of which- are heartbreaking and filled with loss or abandonment. They require the basics of housing, food, and medical care. Additionally, they need attention, affection, training, and advocacy to find the most suitable home for their individual needs.
