About This Cause

The primary responsibility of the Chicago Public Schools Student Science Fair, Inc. (CPSSSF) is to conduct the Exhibition of Student STEM Research. The Exhibition originated in 1950 as a vehicle to encourage and motivate young science students. In March, 200 plus selected winners from Regional Exhibitions display their independent reseach projects in STEM. Based on judges' evaluations, the Chicago Public Schools Student Science Fair, Inc. sends 60-70 outstanding students from the Exhibition of Student STEM Research to participate at the two-day Illinois Junior Academy of Science State Exposition and sends the four top-scoring high school exhibitors to participate at the six-day International Science and Engineering Fair. These events provide the Chicago Public Schools students an opportunity to compete with the best students not only in Illinois but internationally. Another CPSSSF, Inc. sponsored program is the Scholarship Program which was introduced in 1956 with the awarding of two scholarships to CPS graduating senior Exhibition participants. Since then, the Chicago Public Schools Student Science Fair, Inc. has awarded 2,294 scholarships valued at $4,408,984.00 to students from seventy-seven Chicago public high schools.
