Mission Statement
Just Haiti works in partnership with organized associations of subsistence coffee growers in Haiti to bring their delicious fair trade, shade-grown, chemical-free coffee to consumers in the United States.
About This Cause
Founded in 2007, Just Haiti provides technical assistance and market development to subsistence coffee growers in Haiti. We have expanded from working in one community to six, partnering with them to improve their crop, increase production, and then exporting and marketing their coffee to North American consumers. Just Haiti is dedicated to an alternative way of doing business. Our fair trade plus business model means this: all after-expense profits are returned to our Haitian growers; they reap full market value for their labor. In 2014, growers netted 62% of each dollar spent on a bag of Just Haiti Coffee. And with the grower associations’ help, they now are producing more coffee. Growers report using their extra income for their children’s education. Growers report they receive these benefits from their relationship with Just Haiti: • increased income • a strong sense of community among the growers • training and leadership development • a safety net that consists of health care assistance, and extra help for needy. Just Haiti also sponsors scholarships for higher education for coffee growers and their families, strengthening the capacity of rural Haitians to take charge of their own future development.
