Mission Statement

The goal of Mission: Citizen is to guide immigrants through the naturalization process and equip them with the necessary knowledge to pass the U.S citizenship test. Our passion for teaching manifests itself in a series of free, nine week classes designed to provide a basis in American history, citizenship, and current events. Classes are open to anyone, but we cater to green card holders trying to pass the citizenship test. However, as we emphasize, it's more than the test: we prepare for citizenship. Ultimately, we hope to encourage civic engagement in America’s future citizens, including educated voting, participation in community forums and voluntary associations, and understanding the rights and responsibilities that accompany US Citizenship.

About This Cause

Mission: Citizen is a 501(c)(3) student-led nonprofit that uses the energy of youthful high school students to help prepare immigrants for U.S. citizenship. Over the span of 10 weeks, we teach subjects ranging from the federal judicial branch to American geography, all of which covers essential information within the naturalization exam. However, Mission: Citizen is much more than classroom instruction. It crosses age and cultural boundaries. It creates community. It enables young persons to serve society before they can even vote. An important service that Mission: Citizen provides in addition to classes and practice exams are $275 scholarships. These scholarships help offset the $725 cost of applying for citizenship. Our scholarship program, entirely funded by community grants and generous donors, is an integral part of ensuring as many of our students as possible can become U.S. citizens. This year, Mission: Citizen has launched a Holiday Fundraiser to ensure we can continue providing scholarships, and we would love your help in our efforts. Our goal this season is to raise $4000.
