About This Cause
About the organization: The hospitality industry is an industry of incredibly talented and caring individuals which spend their time supporting others. However, these individuals rarely have an opportunity to focus on themselves and their own well-being. High stress, low wages, little work-life balance, limited healthcare, and opposite schedules can lead to substance and alcohol abuse, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, burnout, and other mental health issues which effect their personal lives. Restaurant After Hours was conceived to begin to tackle these issues. Our aim is to provide a safe emotional space and access to mental health resources for individuals who need it. Our organization was founded by hospitality workers with all different experience levels with an aim of providing mental health support to their peers. Our Services: From talking to individuals to collecting data through an anonymous online mental health survey, our organization tries to meet individual needs. We connect hospitality workers to crisis hotlines and provide access to mental health resources (many free) through our resource page on our website, which currently has over 200 resources for hospitality workers to use. We advocate for a free mental health training program called Mental Health First Aid, which offers individuals certification on how to identify mental health struggles through early warning signs, and provide emotional support. We provide a free peer support group program, offered by facilitators trained by mental health counselors. We advocate for mental health strength in hospitality workplaces, and support those already in recovery, or those who wish to start.
