Mission Statement
Matrix Human Services (Matrix), is a 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization with the mission and vision of uniting all human service efforts to move individuals and families toward self-sufficiency.
About This Cause
Matrix was founded in 1906 by a small and generous group of women who recognized the importance of helping the less fortunate who migrated to Detroit seeking a new life and finding them in an unfamiliar environment. The agency operates at 40 different building locations in Detroit and 9 different locations throughout Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. Annually, we serve 20,000 Detroit residents through programs that provide a continuum of more than 60 direct services for pregnant women, children, youth, adults and seniors. Since March 2020, Matrix Human Services has been rapidly responding to the needs of the communities it serves by providing emergency bi-weekly food distribution to low-income families with children; supporting distance-learning and virtual programs for children ages 2-17 by providing smart tablets to those in need of a device equipped with free internet service to ensure that youth can attend and participate in our weekly online programs; serving adults and seniors by pivoting our adult programs including workforce development, housing support, and financial literacy classes to an online setting, and by providing transportation and meal service to senior citizens and vulnerable populations to ensure they can get to medical appointments, grocery stores, and other important appointments. Additionally, as our organization works to re-open, we have employed rigorous cleaning and sanitization protocols to ensure our staff, clients, and general public who access our community buildings are kept safe and that Matrix, as a leader in the community, promotes and supports public health efforts. This includes regular full-facility disinfecting and sanitizing cleanings, procurement of PPE for staff and clients, and the hiring of two Pandemic Specialists who will work to ensure our new protocols are adhered to and put into practice.
