About This Cause

The College Club program started in 1988 as a youth development initiative and as part of the National Urban League's Education Initiative. The goal of the College Club is to increase education opportunities for the number of minorities pursuing post-secondary degrees, and create fun, positive and educational enrichment activities for students. College Club offers a variety of information about scholarship programs to assist 150 students every year and their parents with college tuition, leadership development, life-skills training and financial-literacy training. The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program helps provide income eligible mothers, breastfeeding mothers, women who recently gave birth, and infants from birth up to five years old who are at health risk due to inadequate nutrition. WIC provides supplemental food, offers professional nutrition education, promotes breastfeeding and make referrals based on health screening and assessment needs. The WIC program serves more than 13,000 children and families every month. The Urban Seniors Jobs Program provides assistance to 230 adults, ages 55 and older that meet the U.S. Department of Labor income eligibility guidelines. The participants throughout Wayne and Oakland Counties receive training and are placed with nonprofit, faith-based and community organizations to receive training to develop their skills and build their confidence for employment.
