Mission Statement

Grand Rapids Civic Theatre's mission is to inspire creativity and personal growth, illuminate our common humanity, and ignite connection across our community through the power of theatre arts.

About This Cause

Since 1926, Grand Rapids Civic Theatre has served the West Michigan community through performing arts and theatre education offerings, establishing itself as one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the nation. Civic Theatre presents seven theatrical productions annually, with a combination of mainstage and Theatre for Young Audiences productions. Civic also incorporates special and accessible performances into the production season, tailored to the needs of the community. These include but are not limited to Low Sensory performances, 'Pick Your Price' Wednesday performances, and Relaxed Environment performances. In addition to our season of theatrical productions, Civic's School of Theatre Arts has growth to become one of the finest theatre arts programs in the Midwest, serving over 1,600 students annually. The school offers a comprehensive curriculum of over 100 classes and workshops for students ranging from Pre-K through adulthood. The school ensures that every individual has access to classes tailored to their age and experience level, including opportunities to advance their skills as they progress in grade, exhibit growth, and gain more experience. Civic's School of Theatre Arts has experienced substantial growth in the post-pandemic period, with ongoing data indicating a consistent upward trend in demand for accessible arts education in West Michigan.
