Mission Statement

The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan's mission is to prevent kidney disease and improve the quality of life for those living with it.

About This Cause

Kidney disease is at the heart of our mission . . . to prevent kidney disease and improve the quality of life for those living with it. Because 70% of kidney disease can be prevented, we must also focus on the root causes of kidney disease which are obesity, diabetes and hypertension to help people avoid this disease altogether. So while it's true that we are fighting kidney disease, this fight is not a single disease fight. Hence, we have a broad array of programs which are focused on addressing obesity, diabetes and hypertension to get at the "root" of the problem. Over the last 58 years of serving the people of Michigan, we've seen the power of prevention and it's our top priority. We're proud of what we're doing to fight these diseases and we're grateful to partner with so many worthy organizations, communities, and people on this quest. Since 1955, the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan has led the fight against kidney disease. We have enhanced the lives of many Michigan residents through our patient services, prevention programs, education programs, children’s programs and research. Our efforts have also changed legislation, ensured quality care for patients and advanced medical knowledge. We have informed the public about kidney disease, diabetes, hypertension, and obesity and increased awareness of the critical need for organ and tissue donations. The Foundation has accomplished such success with the help and generosity of the community. The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
