Mission Statement

The Friends Of Parkside is established to promote solidarity among Parkside residents; help build the self-esteem of youth residents; offer educational and employment-related resources to the community, and promote the health and well-being of residents.

About This Cause

THE ORGANIZATION The Friends Of Parkside (FOP) is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, community-based organization located on Detroit’s east side in The Villages at Parkside, formerly Parkside Homes, a public housing complex. FOP was incorporated in March of 1991. FOP has up to a 15- member Board of Directors. The board includes Parkside residents, and representatives from other local agencies and institutions. PHILOSOPHY/APPROACH Friends Of Parkside is dedicated to the overall betterment of the “Parkside Community”. FOP views itself as a member of this community and serves as a link between Parkside residents and the larger eastside community. FOP believes that whatever happens in or around The Villages at Parkside affects each of us, and that residents working together with other community stakeholders can and will change things for the better. VISION/GOALS • A healthy, drug-free, and safe Parkside Community, especially for pregnant women, mothers, seniors, infants, and youth. • An informed and knowledgeable community willing to work together to address issues that threaten the quality of life in the Parkside Community. • Gainful employment, businesses, and personal growth opportunities in the Parkside Community. • Families and individuals committed to improving the community. THE VILLAGES AT PARKSIDE COMMUNITY The Parkside Community is bounded by Frankfort on the north, East Warren on the south, Conner on the west, and Gray on the east. FOP MAIN AREAS, PROGRAMS & PROJECTS (Partial listing) To accomplish its goals, Friends of Parkside works in three main areas – Youth and Family, Computer Technology, and Community Health and Safety.
