About This Cause
Angels’ Place Providing Homes and Services for Persons with Developmental Disabilities Since 1992 • Angels’ Place was founded in 1992 by 5 women who wanted to respond to the need for safe, clean housing for persons with developmental disabilities whose aging parents could no longer care for them. Today, Angels’ place has 21 homes. Angels’ Place homes are located in residential neighborhoods in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb County. 17 homes are in Oakland County. 4-6 individuals live in each home. • We continue to have a waiting list of over 300 individuals; 150 looking for placement in the next 1-3 years. • Angels’ Place has 93 residents and 50 active members in its non-residential program called Abundant Life Services. • The average length of service to a person in our homes will be 40 years. We promise to provide care for life. We become family to the individuals we serve to the end of their days. • Angles’ Place fundraises for three million dollars each year. We do receive some funds from the State’s mental health authority. • Home maintenance continues to be driven by a volunteer maintenance staff and various local groups – scouts, corporate volunteers, community, churches and neighbors – providing the man power to insure the homes are safe and clean. Volunteers provide over 12,000 hours of service annually including one on one with residents, seasonal cleaning, events, resident outings and more. • Two years ago, 95% of our residents were employed or going to a daily workshop. In the current economic climate, only 60% have jobs. They are often the first to be laid off when cuts are made. Although we launched an enrichment program to enhance the lives of these individuals, we are seeking companies that might be able to offer employment to our residents. • Angels’ Place is governed by a Board of Directors. The current president is Chris Nagle.
