Save lives and reduce suffering by educating the public and leading an alliance of patients, healthcare professionals, and partners committed to preventing and curing sepsis.

About This Cause

Sepsis Alliance is a charitable organization run by a team of dedicated laypeople and healthcare professionals who share a strong commitment to battling sepsis. The main goal for Sepsis Alliance and the people who work behind the scenes is to raise sepsis awareness so it can be prevented, detected, and treated early enough so that no harm is done. There are more than 1.7 million cases of sepsis every year in the U.S. Every two minutes, someone in the United States dies of sepsis. This adds up to well over a quarter of a million people every year. Sepsis is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. (after heart disease and cancer), which is more people in one year than those who die of breast cancer, prostate cancer and AIDS combined. Sepsis survivors often face long-term effects after they are discharged from acute care, including amputations, anxiety, memory loss, chronic pain and fatigue, and more - post-sepsis syndrome (PSS). Almost 60% of sepsis survivors experience worsened cognitive (mental) and/or physical function. Many sepsis survivors also require rehospitalization, over 62% of survivors are readmitted to hospital within 30 days of discharge. Sepsis is also the most expensive in-hospital condition in the U.S., costing more than $20 billion each year counting just acute care in-hospital costs. The Sepsis Alliance team is working on producing as much information and educational material as is possible to help the general public become aware of this often deadly condition and for professionals who can then help the public learn about sepsis when it does strike. We encourage you to learn more about sepsis and help us spread the word by sharing this website and its information with others. Share your story in our Faces of Sepsis section. Hold your own Sepsis Awareness campaign or send us a donation, either from you or in the name of someone who has been lost to sepsis. Everything is gratefully accepted.
