About This Cause
Victorious Community Development, Inc. (VCD) is a non-profit organization in Saginaw, Michigan that has a rich 24-year history of impactful community development programming and adept grant management. Originally an outreach ministry of the Victorious Believers Ministries Church, VCD recently rebranded while retaining its grant management infrastructure and expertise. VCD’s commitment to historical preservation, cost-effectiveness, community engagement, and capacity building, creating safe, healthy, and resilient community follows its motto of “Make Things Happen!” for Saginaw’s well-being. In addition to its grant-funded housing counseling initiative, VBMCO Housing Resource Center, VCD has also provided full-day summer camps, after-school tutoring, and robotics programs to expose youth to STEM. VCD also owns rental properties and provides safe affordable housing for families who need a new start or are rebuilding their credit. As the needs of those we serve continue to evolve, we too must adapt and adjust. Therefore, our mission is dynamic and seeks to enhance resources for individuals, families, and community growth; provide services for the basic human needs of Saginaw residents and surrounding communities; enhance resources for the development of children, youth, and young adults; establish safe, viable attractive neighborhoods; and create employment opportunities and economic growth. Our board of directors and staff are already working diligently in collaboration with community partners to enhance community capacity-building. As a result, VCD is seeking to create a community development center—The Mel A. Pryor Community Development Center (MAPCDC). We have acquired the former Trinity Evangelical Lutheran School at 346 South 9th Street, which we aim to revitalize, transform, and repurpose into the MAPCDC center. The center will be home to our Social Enterprise programming. These new highly participatory programs from the center will be an example of how a socially conscious business model and innovative training concept can combine to meet important community needs. Indeed, sustainable revenue differentiates a social enterprise from a traditional charity that relies exclusively on outside funding to fulfill its social mission. The goal of MAPCDC is to serve as a hub for hope and innovation in the Saginaw region. The multipurpose facility will house five flagship programs that include the Victorious Children and Youth Development program.
