Mission Statement

The mission of Macomb Science Olympiad is to inspire the next generation of scientists, doctors and engineers.

About This Cause

Science Olympiad is a team competition that treats learning as a sport, and uses that construct to capture the interest, enthusiasm, and commitment of students and the families who support them. It offers hands-on experiences that students don’t get in the classroom, and challenges them with topics that can be far above what is expected in their grade level. Some events emphasize problem solving, some emphasize mastery of challenging subjects, but all depend on teamwork. Macomb Science Olympiad is a non-profit, volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) organization, and provides training and workshops for coaches and students, both directly, and in partnership with other local organizations. Many parents are involved as event coaches; this provides a great opportunity for them to become directly involved in the child’s education. Students prepare and practice specific skills for months in preparation for the annual tournaments. Two major tournaments are hosted each year, serving Macomb and St. Clair County: one for elementary students, and another for Jr. and Sr. high school students. Approximately 1300 students, accompanied by family and school faculty attend these tournaments; in total, nearly 3000 people. The students collectively compete in 17 events at the elementary level, and 46 events at the secondary level. We have many great partners and sponsors. Macomb Community College graciously provides the facilities for our two regional tournaments. Macomb Science Olympiad is proud to have served our community for more than 35 years.
