Mission Statement
OUR MISSION: Improving Health · Developing Leaders · Creating Change The Schweitzer Fellowship is dedicated to preparing the next generation of professionals who will serve and empower vulnerable people to live healthier lives and create healthier communities.
About This Cause
Through community-based, mentored direct service and a multidisciplinary, reflective leadership development program, ASF is building community capacity and training a professional workforce that is: skilled in addressing the underlying causes of health inequities; committed to improving the health outcomes of underserved communities; and prepared for a life of continued service. The SF Bay Area program is one of 13 ASF chapters across the United States. To date, nearly 4,000 Schweitzer Fellows nationally have delivered nearly 800,000 hours of service to more than 400,000 people in need. Our local program, which began in 2007, has included nearly 200 Fellows who have worked in six Bay Area counties and with more than 60 community agencies to contribute over 40,000 hours to helping those in need. Through this work and through the contributions of the 99 percent of Fellows whose professional careers serve their communities, ASF perpetuates the legacy and philosophy of famed physician-humanitarian Dr. Albert Schweitzer.
