About This Cause

Urban Restoration Counseling Center (URCC) is a non-profit organization that provides mental health clinic services to people of color by people of color. We educate BIPOC communities about the importance of mental health and train student therapists to heal the impacts of trauma passed down through family generations. Our mission is to reduce the trauma that is passed down through family generations by changing the BIPOC community’s overall understanding of mental health. URCC provides individual, couples, family, and group counseling as well as case management services. URCC also provides clinical supervision and professional development to currently enrolled masters-level clinicians and California Board of Behavioral Sciences(BBS)’ registered Associate clinicians (ie. AMFT, ACSW, or APCC). URCC offers our counseling services on a fee-for-service sliding scale, ranging from $40 per session to $120 per session. Our Licensed Clinicians also see clients by billing the client’s health insurance plan. For clients who are underinsured or can not afford their insurance co-pays, URCC has programs that cover the cost of our counseling services. Therapy For ALL (TFA) is our flagship program that provides 15 individual, couples, and/or family counseling appointments with a Student Clinician at no cost to the client and has been funded by various donors. Healing Our Rainbow is an extension of TFA that provides ongoing individual and family counseling to BIPOC LGBTQ Transitional Aged Youth (16 - 24 years old) and their families and has been funded by the San Diego District Attorney’s Care Center. Finally, URCC provides the 52-week, San Diego County, court-ordered Domestic Violence Treatment Program. Our target clients are San Diego BIPOC individuals, youth, couples, and families who are feeling pain and who are motivated to address this pain in a culturally affirming, financially accessible, and community-creating approach. Our target population includes members of San Diego County ages 5 and up that meet, one of the following criteria: uninsured and/or underinsured, current Medi-cal/Medi-Care, enrollment in a college/university, income at/below the Federal Poverty Level, undocumented, refugee, or another immigration status, enrolled college student, unemployed, unable to find a clinician of color using their current insurance, and unable to pay out-of-pocket expenses using their current insurance. URCC targets BIPOC mothers who are at the highest risk of maternal or infant mortality during childbirth, victims and perpetrators of domestic violence, their children who witness this violence, and LGBTQ youth who are at most risk for suicide and homelessness.
