Mission Statement

Brown County United Way unites people, ideas and resources to create community solutions that strengthen every person and every community in Brown County.

About This Cause

Brown County United Way focuses our work on ensuring access to basic needs and developing stability in health, education, financial well-being, and connection-to-community. We strengthen individuals and communities through investment, collaboration, and research that address Individual, Community, and Society needs faced by Brown County residents. 1 in 3 households in Brown County is either ALICE (Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed) or in poverty and faces daily instability. That means they cannot meet their basic needs, access quality education or healthcare, and they may not have the opportunity for financial security or connection to their community. Households that are ALICE or in poverty, lack the resources to find stability in their lives. We know that 1 in 3 households needs to make difficult decisions to get by, and it affects all of us, even those who are not ALICE. The 2020 ALICE Report shows that when more people can reach life stability, crime rates drop, traffic and infrastructure repairs decrease, and the community spends less on emergency services and healthcare costs. And when more families find stability, our communities have higher performing students, more diverse workplaces, and greater civic engagement. (learn more at www.unitedforalice.org/wisconsin) INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT meets the most urgent individual needs in our community. One way we support individual needs is by investing our resources into existing programs that can further serve individuals. We also operate and fund the 2-1-1 Community Resource Referral. The remainder of our Individual Support falls into what we call Non-profit Alignment. This collaboration with other non-profits helps us close the gap between needs and services available through investment, collaboration, and education. COMMUNITY STRENGTHENING changes and develops community structures that build stability and address individual crises. As one example, we are a Green Bay Area Public Schools Community School Anchor Partner, serving the school’s surrounding neighborhoods as part of our Thriving Neighborhoods Initiative. This partnership engages organizations, community groups, and providers of individual services. By developing access to resources in the community we work to address the causes of Individual Needs. SOCIETY SOLUTIONS unite unheard voices with decision-makers to ensure society level policies and practices build stability. We are involved with community boards and government councils where we can directly give a voice to the needs of ALICE and advocate for actions that will impact all of Brown County. When you give to United Way, you help people live more stable lives, and ultimately, thrive. Thank you for your support and partnership!
