Mission Statement

Mission Statement: Founded by Artistic Director Debra Loewen in 1986, Wild Space Dance Company celebrates over three decades in Milwaukee. Wild Space’s mission is to expand the audience for contemporary dance through performance and educational programs in the greater Milwaukee area and throughout southeastern Wisconsin, reaching diverse communities. The company’s goals are to create and produce new, original work each season that engages a diverse audience and to implement outreach programs that reach under-served students in the Milwaukee area, enhancing self-confidence, self-discipline and creative thinking.

About This Cause

Wild Space Dance Company is a Milwaukee based performing arts company. Since 1986, Under the artistic direction of choreographer Debra Loewen, the company creates site-specific choreography for unusual locations in Milwaukee and the Midwest. Sites include: an empty swimming pool, city parking lots, a dairy plant, the Menomonee River, art museums, alleys, a tow lot for cars, formal gardens, a Frank Lloyd Wright home, a marsupial bridge, parking garages and the harbor piers of Lake Michigan to name a few. Performances are open to the public at a nominal charge. Open rehearsals are free to the public and allow passers by an opportunity to watch the making of the new choreography. Wild Space offers outreach programs for Milwaukee youth, reaching over 3,000 students each year.
