Our mission is to compassionately provide a path to self-sufficiency by providing basic needs such as food, clothing and access to additional community resources.
About This Cause
Project Concern’s core activities are as a food pantry, clothing bank and resource center. We were founded in 1968 as a nondenominational faith-based organization. Currently, the pantry serves about 400 households per month, or about 1000 individuals per month and distributes over 400,000 pounds of food a year. The pantry operates with a total paid staff of 70 combined hours per week, and over fifty dedicated volunteers. Beyond our core services we provide: 1. Personal care products & feminine hygiene 2. Infant needs, diapers, formula, baby food 3. School supplies 4. Birthday and Christmas gifts for children 5. Holiday food baskets for Easter & Thanksgiving 6. Assorted short-term programs dealing with health and nutrition, blood pressure checks, flu shots, opportunity to signup for health insurance, food sampling, etc. These activities address major and minor life events that strain low-income households emotionally and financially. The intent of these activities is to relieve some of the burden life events cause in the hopes of reducing the stigma of poverty, potential domestic violence that stress can cause and lead families to become self-sufficient. To Conclude: We have a well-trained staff and volunteers. Our organization is thought of highly with in our community demonstrated by the fact that over 30% of our funds come from community members. The State of Wisconsin, Kitty Kocol, Coordinator of The Emergency Food Assistance Program, wrote in her report, “Project Concern continues excellent work on behalf of the community. Its food pantry is a well-run, valued resource that is effectively and efficiently meeting its mission in a compassionate manner.
