Our mission is to create moving theater that connects with our sense of being human. We are dedicated to promoting the work of women, onstage and off.
About This Cause
Renaissance Theaterworks (RTW) is Milwaukee’s only professional theater company founded and run by women. Since 1993, RTW has mounted over 100 full productions and staged-readings. We have told many women’s stories and provided opportunities for over 700 theater professionals; 75% of these have been women. We are a fiscally responsible company, implementing careful budgeting and emphasizing planned, strategic, incremental growth. In our history, we have never been in debt. Today RTW remains Milwaukee’s only theater company dedicated to improving gender parity. Each season, we produce three mainstage productions, as well as the Br!NK New Play Festival, a program designed to develop and advance the work of female playwrights from the Midwest. We also conduct an educational program, the Fran Bauer Young Critics Project. We perform at 255 S Water Street, also home of Next Act Theatre in Walker’s Point. This 152 seat facility features a state-of-the-art hearing loop system, handicapped parking, and an accessible ground-level layout.
