About This Cause
WBCC is a 24-year-old grassroots breast cancer advocacy and education organization that serves the Wisconsin breast cancer community by monitoring policy on the state and national levels. We work to advance policy that protects and serves people with breast cancer and to prevent harmful legislation. We educate legislators, the public, and other decisions makers about evidence-based breast cancer science to ensure that they are well-informed when creating systems, guidelines and laws. We are non-partisan, non-profit, and collaborative. Our sister breast cancer organizations value our work; we "have their backs" while they focus on direct service. WBCC teaches advocates about their role in breast cancer policy through our "Beyond the pink ribbon" programs. We maintain a large online database of supporters that are engaged when action is needed on pending legislation. We are active members of: - The Wisconsin Breast Cancer Task Force (working to improve screening rates in Wisconsin) - The Wisconsin Cancer Council's Policy Committee (working to reduce the cancer burden in Wisconsin) - Breast Cancer Research Advisory Network, participating as community advocates with researchers at UW-Madison We are aligned with: - The Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Program as informal community partners - The National Breast Cancer Coalition, helping to advance the Breast Cancer Deadline 2020 campaign to know how to prevent deaths from metastasis and prevent primary disease by January 1, 2020, and to secure vital research funding through the highly successful and innovative Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program
