Mission Statement

Milwaukee Children’s Choir provides exceptional choral music education and performance experiences that foster creativity, personal expression and social growth.

About This Cause

Since 1994, the Milwaukee Children's Choir (MCC) has shaped area youth through innovative choral music education and unique performance experiences. The MCC provides children with top-notch choral music education through multi-level evening and weekend choirs (September-June). MCC programming gives children an outlet for their creativity and energy and offers them a great way to make new friends, have fun and find their voice. Children, ages 4-18, attend 1 of 5 choirs based on age, ability, and experience. The benefits children gain from singing and performing with the MCC are numerous, from better grades and advanced social skills to a more empathic attitude towards the performing arts as adults. The MCC strives to include a repertoire that spans a wide range of styles and periods, and that mirrors the diversity of our choristers and families. We partner with local arts organizations like Danceworks, Walker’s Point Center of the Arts, and MSO to bolster that reflection. Further, professional composers and conductors are hired to lead singer workshops. During the 2022-2023 season, BIPOC composer and racial equity advocate Alishya Lee will compose a piece that singers will premiere at the performance “Moxie” in February 2023. She will also work with singers, discussing the composing process while challenging their understanding of racial biases. The MCC is committed to bringing greater diversity into our choirs by helping overcome financial and transportation barriers. To meet these needs, we offer tuition assistance through the Emily Crocker Scholarship Fund. Each season, 24 singers receive $8,000 in scholarships. Funds come from the MCC's operating budget, in addition to concert admission. $1 of every MCC performance admission is directed to the Fund. The MCC also offers outreach with Music Unites, a program geared toward urban youth and emphasizes inclusion. More specifically, Music Unites addresses cultural context by mirroring the positive aspects of the singers' familial environment. Acknowledging and emphasizing the laudative differences between individuals of diverse backgrounds fosters understanding and acceptance.
